ATTENTION MIDDLE SCHOOL SCIENCE TEACHERS: Please consider participating in the study described below.

I am conducting research as part of the requirements for a Doctor of Philosophy in Education degree. The purpose of my research is to understand middle school science teachers’ lived experiences teaching scientific writing, such as CER responses. To participate, you must teach sixth-, seventh-, or eighth-grade general education science, have a current, state-issued teaching license, and routinely participate in a PLC with at least one other general education science teacher. Participants will be asked to take part in an individual interview (30 to 45 minutes), a focus group (45 to 60 minutes), and provide two to three documents that they use to teach or assess scientific writing. The interview and focus group will be virtual. Participants will also be asked to review their interview transcripts (10 minutes) to check for accuracy and confirm agreement. If you are interested, please click below to complete the screening survey. If you meet my participant criteria, I will contact you to schedule an interview and will send you the consent document. If you choose to participate, you will need to sign the consent document and return it to me at the time of the interview. Participants will be given $20 in gift cards to Amazon, Target, or Dunkin’ Donuts as compensation.
