The E-measure Leader Award
For exemplary classroom teaching with computers linked to probes using inquiry-based methods

 

PASCO Scientific is proud to partner with NMLSTA to honor 5 e-measure Leaders. Awards include vouchers for $2000, $500, and 3 site licenses of DataStudio. These awards recognize exemplary classroom teaching with computers linked to probes using inquiry-based methods.

Applicants who are not NMLSTA members should submit request for membership with their award application.

The award committee will choose 5 (five) finalists from the application packets that meet the following requirements:

1. NARRATIVE describing how PASCO materials are used in your classroom. This 5 E structure may help you organize your narrative so that it includes the most indicative material.
     —Engagement - How do you start the class and get students interested?
     —Exploration - What investigations, discussion, class activities, problem solving activities, cooperative group activities do you use?
     —Explanation - How will you help students analyze what they learned/experienced?
     —Evaluation - How do you assess student learning?
     —Extensions - What are the possibilities for future learning resulting from this lesson?

This should be two pages, double-spaced, 12 pt font minimum. This should also include a lesson plan with suggested length of 3 to 5 pages. Please also include this file on disk.

2. One page of PICTURES (3x5, 4x6, or collage) with captions.
3. RESUME describing education, job history, previous awards, etc.
4. Three LETTERS (one MUST be from a supervisory person, others can be from colleagues, parents, students) to support and add depth to your application.

Postmarked DEADLINE is January 4, 2003 for the next award year.

Awarded applicants will demonstrate many of the following attributes:

  • Alignment with the National Science Standards
  • Inquiry-based methodology
  • Using technology as a tool for increasing student comprehension and scientific literacy
  • Make cross-curricular connections
  • Evidence of sensitivity to equity issues
  • Evidence of Authentic/Performance Assessment
  • Sheer "Cool" factor
